Position: Academic Coordinator
Modern American Language Institute (MALI)
Reports to the Managing Director
Location: Sana’a, Yemen
Job Description:
• Staff Development
• Supervise and conduct the professional development of teachers
• Conduct orientation programs for new teachers
• Evaluate performance of teaching staff. Document and discuss present and past performance on teachers with the Director of Studies (DOS)
• Maintain discipline, recommend and administer corrective action according to policy and procedures.
• Assess, plan and execute teacher recruitment needs in the different locations with the Managing Director/DOS
• Make recommendations regarding syllabi, exams and placement tests
• Organize and conduct teacher meetings at the start and end of each term to ensure procedures and operational instructions are implemented by all staff. Communicate updated procedures to teachers and answer their queries
• Participate in Marketing/Business Development activities as necessary
• Proofread and correct errors on quizzes and tests
• Review and approve final grades
• With the Managing Director/DOS, review job applicants and conduct interviews for local teaching candidates and make appropriate recommendations
• Teach up to 2 classes per term as needed, 20 hours per week
• Update final exams in coordination with teaching staff
Qualifications:
• BA degree or higher preferred
• Native English speaker
• Formal ESL and management experience \
• Excellent teaching skills
• Sound interpersonal skills
• Highly organized
• Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Tact and Discretion
• Cultural Sensitivity
• Adventurous
• Flexible, experience in a developing country preferred
